Schmidt+Haensch is a long established manufacturer of refractometers and polarimeters, with an experience and knowledge of mechanics and optics that is unsurpassed. The company holds several patents and develops opto-electronic measuring instruments and systems of the highest quality and accuracy.

Traditional products are supplemented by new additions, such as a colour-measuring instrument for sugar according to ICUMSA and several new devices to rationalise work in the laboratory, including an automatic dosage system and a semi-automatic filtration device. In-line, explosion-proof process refractometers for high-risk environments can be combined with an on-line turbidimeter and specific probes for on-line measurement of alcohol and carbon dioxide.

The need for increased productivity and automation in the laboratory is met with the Schmidt + Haensch modular, computer aided automated laboratory systems. Based on conventional opto-electronic measuring instruments the systems can also be upgraded to include pH measurement, balances, barcode scanners and all necessary instruments for measuring the most important values in the sugar industry or for other specific applications. Results can be collected by a data acquisition software package, processed, stored in a data bank and transmitted to a LIMS system for simple seamless analysis.

Automation is further advanced with the new automated on-line analysis systems, such as automatic on-line titration for measuring pH, alkalinity and lime content and the automatic on-line ash analyser for the determination of conductometric ash in the sugar industry. These modular, computer-aided systems perform analyses that conventionally are carried out in laboratories next to the process. The systems consist of a sample collecting module, an analysis module and a personal computer. The values of the analysed samples can be transmitted to a LIMS system and can be used to control the production process.
